Palace picks corporate lawyer to chair SEC

Malacañang on Saturday announced it has chosen corporate lawyer to Teresita Herbosa to be the next head of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Deputy presidential spokeswoman Abigail Valte said the Palace is confident in Herbosa’s ability to head the SEC, which is tasked to strengthen the corporate and capital market infrastructure. “Ia-announce natin na si Teresita Herbosa ang bagong chair ng SEC (We are announcing that Herbosa is the new chairwoman of the SEC)," Valte said on government-run dzRB radio. Valte also said former Commission on Elections Chairman Jose Melo has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Clark Development Corporation. While Valte gave no description of Herbosa, several websites indicated she belongs to the Angara Abello Concepcion Regala and Cruz (ACCRA) law office.
