DLSU, US embassy renew DLSU partnership on 'American Corner'
The De La Salle University on Taft and the United States Embassy Public Affairs Section have renewed an 11-year partnership to maintain an American Corner at the DLSU Library. âAmerican Corners" are American cultural centers around the world established by US embassies in partnership with local hosts, such as academic institutions, according to a DLSU statement Monday. The American Corner in DLSU is the only one in Metro Manila. Established in 2000, it holds more than 2,000 titles book titles, periodicals, and audio-visual materials on American studies, economics, management and business, literature, English language, politics, law, and democratic societies. The place also serves as a venue for public lectures and discussion sessions, cultural events, educational exchange programs, and other US embassy-sponsored activities. The partnership is a boost for DLSU, the only university in the country to offer a full degree program in American Studies. All over the Philippines, there are 13 other American Corners and 33 smaller American resource centers which, collectively, expand the US embassyâs reach. A memorandum of understanding was signed by DLSU vice chancellor for Research Dr. Arnulfo P. Azcarraga and US Embassy Information Resource Center Public Affairs Counselor Robin Diallo. â MRT/VS, GMA News
