1 killed, 2 hurt as fire truck collides with kuliglig
At least one person was killed while two were hurt after a "kuliglig" (makeshift tricycle) they were riding collided with a fire truck in Manila Friday night. The incident occurred on Reina Regente Street in Manila's Binondo district, radio dzBB reported early Saturday. SPO3 Rey Fernandez of the Manila traffic bureau said the fire truck was heading for C.M. Recto Avenue while the kuliglig was heading for Plaza Lorenzo Ruiz. All three casualties were passengers of the kuliglig, and were rushed to the Philippine General Hospital. The report said the kuliglig driver succumbed to his injuries while the male passenger was seriously hurt. The female passenger initially identified as Mary Rose suffered minor injuries. Police are preparing possible charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injuries against the driver of the fire truck. However, the report said police investigators are verifying if the fire truck was responding to an emergency at the time of the accident. On the other hand, the city government has a standing ban on kuliglig from the city's main streets. The city government had cited the makeshift vehicle's lack of safety features, and noisy engine in banning it. — LBG, GMA News
