After spending jail time in Hong Kong for possession of illegal drugs, former Rep. Ronald Singson is to return to the Philippines on a private plane. Singson's father, Gov. Luis Singson, was to meet the ex-lawmaker at the Hong Kong airport after which they would fly home, radio dzBB reported Saturday. The Singsons are to fly directly to Vigan, the report added. But the elder Singson, who is now in Hong Kong, gave no further details of who would join him in meeting with the former lawmaker. The report said the elder Singson was to head to the airport at 11 a.m. and would not venture outside the airport while waiting for Ronald. Hong Kong authorities or Ronald's lawyer were to bring the former lawmaker to the airport, the dzBB report said. Ronald completed an 18-month jail term for illegal drug possession in a Hong Kong jail. He was arrested at Chek Lap Kok International Airport in July 2010 after airport authorities discovered from his possession some 26.1 grams of cocaine and two tablets of Valium. A Hong Kong court sentenced him to 18 months' imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to illegal possession of prohibited drugs. The Commission on Elections held a special election in May 2011 for the post he vacated in the House of Representatives. His younger brother Ryan replaced him to represent the first district of Ilocos Sur. — LBG, GMA News
