Flash floods and landslides threaten parts of Visayas and Mindanao due to the tail-end of a cold front Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

PAGASA said the tail-end of a cold front is affecting the eastern section of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Northern Mindanao.

"(The) eastern section of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over Eastern and Central Visayas and Northeastern Mindanao which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.

It added the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated light rains.

PAGASA forecaster Gener Quitlong, however, said there is no weather disturbance now affecting the Philippine area of responsibility.

"Sa ngayon wala tayong namamataang anumang bagyo o namumuong sama ng panahon na maaaring makaapekto sa ating bansa o saan man sa Philippine area of responsibility," he said in an interview on dzBB radio.

Also, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds from the northeast will blow over Luzon, and from the northeast and east over Visayas. These will make coastal waters along these areas moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate from the northeast, resulting in slight to moderate seas.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon, and the eastern seaboard of Visayas may be affected by strong to gale-force winds.

"Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves," it said. –KG, GMA News
