PAGASA: Rainy start to summer in eastern Visayas, Mindanao
A rainy start to this year's summer looms over the eastern parts of Visayas and Mindanao, although other parts of the country may expect isolated rain as well, state weather forecasters said Friday.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the rain over Eastern Visayas and Mindanao is due mainly to the easterlies, or winds from the east.
"(Uulan pa rin) lalo na sa eastern section ng Visayas at Mindanao, at sa ilang bahagi ng bansa ay mainit at mataas ang temperatura," PAGASA forecaster Buddy Javier said in an interview on dzBB radio.
He said Metro Manila's expected temperature range for Friday is between 23 and 33 degrees Celsius.
Javier also said the weather may be humid during the summer months.
"Ang temperature natin tumataas, sa 23-33 (degrees Celsius) na. Asahan pa natin (itong) March, tataas pa rin ‘yan," he said.
Meanwhile, PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin indicated Eastern Visayas and Eastern Mindanao will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon or evening, it added.
"Moderate to strong winds blowing from the east to northeast will prevail over the eastern section of the country and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough," it said.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate from the northeast, resulting in slight to moderate seas. –KG, GMA News
