The National Youth Commission announced Wednesday it has chosen 160 youth leaders to take part in the 9th National Youth Parliament (NYP) to be held this May in Camarines Sur.
Five representatives per region were chosen as well as 55 from various sectors. An additional 20 participants were picked by nomination.
The representatives were chosen based on their active involvement in the community, leadership and/or service track record, awareness about youth issues, and ability to present views and perspectives.
The NYC, which is under the Office of the President, said the NYP is a 3-day convention wherein youth leaders can draft policy recommendations to address youth issues. These recommendations will be used by the government to guide policy formulation and program development.
Since 1996, the NYP has been held every two years.
This year’s NYP has for its theme “Revolutionizing Youth Development.” It will be held on May 2 to 6 in Naga City.
