5 fall in antifilm piracy raid in Quiapo
Police arrested at least five persons and seized some P22 million in pirated video CDs and DVDs following a predawn raid in Manila's Quiapo district Monday. Radio station dzBB reported that the building along Arlegui Street in Quiapo where the raid took place also yielded a cal-.38 revolver, a fragmentation grenade, and ammunition. Four of the five arrested persons were initially identified as Boy delos Reyes, 21; Jason Obanto, 19; Jimmy Balani, 20; and Alberto Pablo. Raiding teams from the Manila Police District (MPD) Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and District Intelligence and Investigation Division (DIID) also found 15 replicating machines used to make pirated copies of movies. The rampant sale of pirated CDs and DVDs has greatly affected the Philippine movie industry and the government has been waging a high-profile campaign against film piracy. - GMANews.TV
