PNP: Zero crime streak during Pacquiao bouts snapped
The loss suffered by Filipino boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao to Timothy Bradley Jr. in Las Vegas Sunday [Manila time] not only broke the champ's 15-match winning streak dating back to 2005.
Pacquiao's loss also snapped an informal tradition of zero-crime incidence whenever his bouts are aired in the Philippines, radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag Jr. reported Monday.
At least three incidents were recorded Sunday noon at the time Pacquiao's bout was aired, according to Philippine National Police spokesman Senior Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr.
Cerbo was quoted in the report as saying the incidents included a robbery-holdup in Navotas City and the theft of a motorcycle in Pasig City.
He also said the PNP recorded an encounter between government troops and communist New People's Army rebels in Bontoc town in Mountain Province.
Pacquiao has been long regarded as a peacemaker as his bouts usually result in an informal ceasefire between government troops and rebels.
Even criminals are believed to take some time off from their activities when the bout is televised in the Philippines. — RSJ, GMA News
