The political line in the sand is a step closer to being drawn. President Benigno Aquino III on Thursday confirmed that talks between his own Liberal Party, the Nacionalista Party, and the Nationalist People’s Coalition have been “very, very successful”.
“But I will leave it up to our party president, Mar Roxas (Department of Transportation and Communications Secretary Manuel Roxas II), to make the appropriate announcement,” Aquino told reporters after attending the 2nd Agri Machinery Roadshow in Pasay City.
Aquino chairs the LP while the Nacionalista Party, or NP, is headed by Senator Manuel Villar. Aquino ran against and defeated Villar the 2010 presidential elections.
The Nationalist People’s Coalition, or NPC, was founded in 1992 by business tycoon Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco.
Cojuangco, who is Aquino’s uncle, is the NPC’s chairman emeritus.
NP spokesperson and House Deputy Speaker Jesus Crispin Remulla earlier said that his party is also studying the possibility of forging alliances with other groups to boost its chances in the 2013 polls.
The NPC, through its spokesperson Valenzuela City Rep. Rex Gatchalian, had said that their party is also willing to entertain talks with other parties on the possibility of joining forces for the upcoming polls.
The possible LP-NP-NPC coalition will be up against Vice President Jejomar Binay and former President Joseph Estrada’s United Nationalist Alliance. — DVM, GMA News
