Authorities arrested a tricycle driver and a minor, and seized some 200 kilos of "botcha" (tainted meat) in Manila's Tondo district before dawn Friday.

But Manila city officials also said the latest incident uncovered a new modus operandi by those trying to bring the tainted meat to markets, radio dzBB reported.

The report quoted Dr. Joselito Diaz of the Manila Veterinary Inspection Board as saying that arrangements would be made to place the meat in garbage bins so authorities would not detect them.

Minors would also be used in the operation to exploit the present juvenile justice law where children under age 15 cannot be charged criminally, the report said.

In Friday's incident, the authorities arrested tricycle driver Jason Macasinag and a minor delivering the meat.

An initial investigation showed the meat in Friday's incident came from Caloocan City and was to be sold in markets in Manila's Divisorial district. — RSJ, GMA News
