RP Muaythai team wins 1st gold in 3rd World championship in Thailand

BANGKOK, Thailand - The Philippine Muaythai Team Friday clinched the first gold medal awarded in the 3rd World Muaythai Championship in Bangkok, Thailand in the Aerobics Muaythai category. The World Muaythai Federation Philippines (WMF-Phils) Motolite-Pagcor Muaythai Aerobics Team composed of Wushu SEA Games Gold Medallist in Myanmar George Lusadan, Jessica Oyang, the 2003-2005 Flyweight Muaythai National Champion and 2003 Muaythai Bronze Medallist in Thailand Queen’s Cup, and Emmanuel Sabrine from the Chinese Kickboxing Team of NCR bested the Lebanon Team which came in second and the Thailand Team which obtained the bronze. The RP Muaythai Team also won the bronze medal with the Iran Team in the Wai Kru and Muayboran category. Germany won the gold and Kuwait got the silver in the same category. The Philippine Wai Kru and Muayboran Team is composed of Billy Alumno and Sonny Sumales from the Muay Association of the Philippines (MAP). The Philippine Muaythai Team has also gained medal standing with Emmanuel Sabrine of the WMF-Phils Motolite-Pagcor National Muaythai Team in the pinweight category and SEA Games gold medallist Roland Claro of MAP National Team in the flyweight division. Sabrine and Claro will be competing today for the bronze medal. The WMF-Phils Motolite-Pagcor National Muaythai Team led by Brico Santig sent five players, while the MAP National Muaythai Team led by Roberto Valdez likewise sent 5 players in the 3rd World Muaythai Championship organized by the World Muaythai Federation (WMF) in Bangkok and Patumthanee, Thailand from March 18 to 26, 2006. Together, both teams composed the Philippine Muaythai Team. Close to 50 countries and more than 500 muaythai boxers are participating in the on-going world muaythai tournament.-GMANews.TV
