NDRRMC: Death toll from monsoon floods rises to 49

The death toll from the heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon and enhanced by tropical cyclone Haikui rose to 49 Thursday night, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said. In its 8 p.m. update, the NDRRMC said that some 2.1 million have been affected by the rains and flooding. The update also highlighted the recent fatalities that have been added to the NDRRMC list since its previous report. Other figures cited in the report: - 460,273 families or 2,110,871 people in 1,611 villages in 128 towns and 30 cities in 16 provinces have been displaced or otherwise affected by the monsoon rains. - Of these, 66,577 families or 314,795 people are being served in 630 evacuation centers. - Six people have been reported missing. - At least 366 houses were destroyed while 2,750 were damaged. - 80 cities and towns in Metro Manila, Ilocos, and Central and Southern Luzon experienced severe flooding. - At least 129 roads and five bridges were not passable to vehicles. Most of these are in Metro Manila, with some in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central and Southern Luzon, western Visayas and Cordillera. - BM, GMA News
