At least two areas in Northern Luzon were placed under Storm Signal No. 1 Sunday after the weather disturbance near the area intensified into a tropical cyclone. PAGASA said the tropical depression, codenamed "Igme," was moving "slowly" and was 280 km east-southeast of Aparri, Cagayan. In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said Igme packed maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and is moving west "slowly." By Monday morning it is expected to be 260 km east-southeast of Aparri, Cagayan. By Tuesday morning it is expected to be 130 km east-northeast of Aparri, Cagayan. On Wednesday morning, it is forecast to be 210 km north of Aparri, Cagayan or over Basco, Batanes. Under Storm Signal No. 1 are Isabela and Cagayan. PAGASA said Igme may bring 5 to 15 mm per hour (moderate to heavy) rainfall within its 400-km diameter. It also said Igme may enhance the southwest monsoon that will bring rains over Central and Southern Luzon especially the western section. "Residents living in Northern Luzon especially in low-lying and mountainous areas are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides," it said. Fishing boats and other small sea crafts were also advised not to venture out into the eastern Seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon due to Tropical Depression Igme and the southwest monsoon. — LBG, GMA News
