Typhoon Igme intensifies slightly; 3 areas under signal 1
At least three areas in northern Luzon were under Storm Signal No. 1 as Typhoon Igme (international codename Tembin) intensified slightly while continuing to move north.
In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said Typhoon Igme was estimated at 310 km east of Basco in Batanes province as of 10 a.m.
Under Storm Signal No. 1 are Calayan Islands, Babuyan Islands, and Batanes Islands.
PAGASA said Typhoon Igme was packing maximum sustained winds of 165 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 200 kph, and was moving north at 11 kph.
By Wednesday morning, it is expected to be 260 km northeast of Basco, Batanes. By Thursday morning it is forecast to be 280 km north northwest of Basco, Batanes. On Friday morning, it is expected to be 440 km northwest of Basco, Batanes.
PAGASA said Typhoon Igme may bring estimated rainfall of 10 to 25 mm per hour (moderate to heavy) within its 550-km diameter.
It added Typhoon Igme may enhance the southwest monsoon that will bring light to moderate rains over Luzon specially the western section.
These areas include Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Batangas and Mindoro.
PAGASA reminded fishing boats and other small seacraft not to venture out into the eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon due to big waves caused by Typhoon Igme and the southwest monsoon. — RSJ, GMA News
