The Department of Education on Tuesday afternoon said all Philippine flags in its offices and in schools nationwide will be hoisted at half-mast in honor of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.
In a post on its Twitter account Tuesday afternoon, the DepEd said this will be in effect until Robredo is laid to rest.
"In honor of DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo, flags in all DepEd offices and schools nationwide will be hoisted at half mast until he is laid to rest," it said.
The DepEd supervises schools from preschool to high school.
Earlier Tuesday, DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro issued a statement where he said the Cabinet mourned Robredo's passing "as an icon of good governance and faithful stewardship."
"As a fellow Lasallian, I mourn an outstanding alumnus who has been a(n) example of what it means to use one's gifts for service. As a Filipino, I am urged by Sec. Jesse's legacy to continue to believe that there are good men and women who are willing to sacrifice and give their lives for the sake of our nation," Luistro said.
The DepEd also voiced deepest condolences to the families of pilot Captain Jessup Bahinting and co-pilot Kshitiz Chand. –KG, GMA News
