(Updated 11 a.m.) The remains of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo arrived at his home city of Naga in Bicol, after being brought to Malacañan Palace in Manila for people in Manila to pay their last respects to him. Robredo's remains arrived at the Naga City Hall at about 10:48 a.m. The convoy paused near Robredo's house, with his portrait hanging, along Bulusan St. Also, residents lined Naga streets, dzBB's Allan Gatus reported, adding that Senator Joker Arroyo was seen at the city hall. A cargo plane bearing Robredo's remains touched down shortly after 9 a.m., Gatus reported earlier. Before being flow to Naga, Robredo's remains left Malacañan Palace after departure honors from the Presidential Security Group. Philippine National Police chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome welcomed the immediate family members of Robredo as they alighted from the cargo plane bearing the late secretary's remains. Following arrival honors, the remains are to be brought to the Naga City Hall. City officials had prepared the People's Hall for the wake, to accommodate as many people as possible, according to an earlier report by dzBB's Allan Gatus. Security was tight at the airport, with unauthorized people kept away. Earlier in the day, officials had prepared the airport for the arrival of Robredo's remains. Robredo served as the city's mayor for 19 years. On Monday, his remains will be transferred from Naga City Hall to the Basilica Minore de Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia. On Tuesday, a funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. before the State Funeral at 11 a.m. Robredo died in a plane crash in Masbate last Aug. 18, while on his way to Naga City from Cebu. The plane's pilot and co-pilot also died in the crash. Only Robredo's aide survived the incident. From Friday to Saturday, ordinary Filipinos braved the rain and heat to line up to pay their respects to Robredo. The late official's Cabinet colleagues on Saturday night held a lighthearted memorial service for him, even as a final Mass in Malacañang for him was held early Sunday, attended by family and close friends. — LBG, GMA News
