CA panel recommends confirmation of Rep. Abaya as DOTC chief

A panel of the Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday recommended the confirmation of the nomination of Cavite Rep. Joseph Emilio Abaya as the secretary of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).

 

The CA committee on transportation and communications made the recommendation after no lawmaker or private individual opposed Abaya's nomination.

 

Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada made the motion to recommend the confirmation of the nomination of Abaya while Senator Edgardo Angara, and Maguindanao Rep. Simeon Datumanong, and Cebu Rep. Eduardo Gullas seconded the motion. 

 

Abaya will be replacing Secretary Mar Roxas, who will be taking over the Department of Interior and Local Government.

 

Abaya, who chairs the House committee on appropriations, is also secretary general of the administration's Liberal Party. Roxas is LP president. — Kimberly Jane Tan/RSJ, GMA News
