'Jukebox King' Victor Wood to try luck in politics again next year
Victor Wood, the country’s “Jukebox King,” will try his luck in politics for the second time next year. Defeated in the 2007 elections, Wood was among the last senatorial aspirants to file their certificate of candidacy Friday, the deadline for the filing, at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) main office in Manila. Interviewed after he filed his COC, Wood said he was cheated in the 2007 elections, where he also ran for senator. "Si Fernando Poe [Jr.] nga nadaya, sino ba naman ako? Sisiw lang ako. Maraming nasaktan kasi hindi naman biro ang pagtakbo, buhay ang nakasalalay," he said. "Hindi masakit ang matalo, ang masakit yung madaya," added Wood, who will run under Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) next year. Wood, a singer and actor, received 283,036 votes in the 2007 senatorial elections. Meanwhile, the last to file his COC was 76-year-old Manuel Po. He was also the last to file his COC for the 2010 elections. In 2010, Po, who was then using the nickname Lapula Po, waited until 12 midnight to file his COC, as the filing was extended then. He was eventually declared a nuisance candidate by the Comelec. Po also ran for the Senate in 2004, using the nickname Fernando Po Jr. — Amita O. Legaspi/KBK, GMA News
