PAGASA weather forecasters said late Friday evening that the low pressure area east of Surigao City in northeastern Mindanao strengthened into a tropical depression, was codenamed "Bising" and prompted them to raise Storm Signal No. 1 over six provinces.
Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Western Samar and Eastern Samar can expect stormy winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour (kph), PAGASA said in its 11 p.m. tropical cyclone warning bulletin Friday.
State weather forecasters also said Bising is moving northwest at 19 kph along the eastern, Pacific side of the country and is forecast to be at 300 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon by Saturday evening.
"Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides," PAGASA said.
Rainfall within the 300-kilometer diameter of Bising is expected to be moderate to heavy, ranging from 5 to 15 millimeters per hour.
"Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon over the seaboards of Southern Luzon and Visayas due to Tropical Depression "Bising" and the Northeast Monsoon," PAGASA also said. — ELR, GMA News
