Commission on Elections official Romeo Brawner on Tuesday said he will junk the petition for people’s initiative once it filed before their office for reasons of constitutional deficiency. “As soon as a petition is filed, we have to junk it because there’s no implementing law supporting it," said Brawner. The poll official also said the implementation of People’s initiative has no legal basis and Republic Act (RA) 6735 is not sufficient to defend the petition because it only allows for minor revisions in the Charter. Brawner said the commission was prepared to verify the signatures, which the President Arroyo’s supporters have collected to press for amendments to the 1987 Constitution. -GMANews.TV
