Keep JS prom simple, DepEd reminds school admins
With preparations for the yearly Junior-Senior Prom now full blast, the Department of Education reminded school administrators Wednesday to keep the event simple.
DepEd communications director Tina Ganzon said the prom need not be a costly event for high school students and their parents, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.
Ganzon was also quoted in the report as saying school administrators should not encourage students and parents to spend much for outfits and other arrangements.
In the coming weeks, several schools are to hold their Junior-Senior Proms, most of them in the school premises.
The report said many students had been noted to spend for their outfits while some schools arranged to have the prom held in posh hotels.
But Ganzon said the prom need not be extravagant, and students and parents can better spend the money on other more basic things.
A recent report on GMA News' 24 Oras said gowns may be rented for P500 to P1,500; coat and tie from P600 to P1,500; and accessories at P350. —KG, GMA News
