DepEd reminds schools of no-collection policy for graduation

With Graduation Day nearing, the Department of Education reminded schools of a no-collection policy for graduation rites.

In a radio interview Monday, Education Secretary Armin Luistro also warned schools against having students submit "non-academic" projects before they can graduate.

Luistro added that schools must keep their graduation ceremonies this year simple, without need for organizing extravagant events, the radio dzBB report said.

He said what is important is to make sure the graduation is a memorable event for this year's batch.

The report said the DepEd recommended that graduation rites be held on March 18 or 19.

Meanwhile, Luistro reiterated his appeal to candidates running in the May 13 elections not to make a political spectacle of the graduation rites.

He particularly aimed his message at those who had been invited to be speakers at graduation rites. — RSJ, GMA News
