Possible floods in Southern Luzon as heavy rainfall continues

Heavy rainfall continues to threaten Metro Manila and parts of Southern and Central Luzon until at least Friday afternoon, state weather forecasters said.

PAGASA issued a Yellow rainfall advisory at 11 a.m. over Metro Manila, Calabarzon in Southern Luzon, and Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan and Zambales in Central Luzon.
"Flooding is possible in low-lying areas and those located near the river channels," it said.

PAGASA forecaster Mario Palafox said the rain from the northeast monsoon may last until at least Friday night.

But Palafox, in an interview on dzBB radio, said the weather may only slightly improve on Saturday, with rain still expected.

"Mamaya hihina ito at gaganda sa kinabukasan. Bukas sisilip ang haring araw pero hindi tuluyan maging maganda (We expect the rain to weaken tonight. The weather on Saturday will slightly improve but there may still be rain)," he said.

Meanwhile, PAGASA advised local disaster risk reduction and management councils to "take necessary precautionary measures."

It also advised residents to "closely monitor the weather condition."

PAGASA noted "moderate to heavy rainfall" had been observed over Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan and Zambales.

Light to moderate rains were also observed over Nueva Ecija and Tarlac, PAGASA added.

This may continue until early afternoon, it said. — TJD, GMA News
