With temperatures now rising and the northeast monsoon weakening, state weather forecasters said Tuesday the start of summer is drawing closer.

PAGASA forecaster Alvin Pura said the average temperature particularly in the early morning has been rising in past days.

"Sa ngayon ang minimum temperature range natin 23-24 degrees pag umaga, hindi tulad noong January at February mga 20 to 22 (For now, our minimum temperature range in the morning is 23 to 24 degrees Celsius, unlike in January and February when it was 20 to 22 degrees)," Pura said in an interview on dzBB radio.

When asked when PAGASA will announce the formal start of the summer season, he said they are still studying it. "Pinagaaralan pa namin (We're still studying it)," he said.

But for now, Pura said the high-pressure area that brought the cold winds from Siberia to the Philippines late last year had weakened.

"Medyo umiinit lalo sa tanghali, medyo maalinsangan (As a result, it is getting hot and humid, especially at noon)," he said.  — ELR, GMA News
