Possible thunderstorm over NCR, rain over NLuzon today

The thunderstorms that caused heavy rain in parts of Metro Manila Thursday may occur again Friday, even as the "tail-end of a cold front" may bring rain to parts of Northern Luzon, according to state weather forecasters.

However, PAGASA forecaster Samuel Duran assured the public that any thunderstorm that may occur over Metro Manila Friday will likely be short-lived.

"May possibility magkaroon ng ganyang pagkakataon ... Ine-expect natin may isolated cases ng thunderstorms," Duran said in an interview on dzBB radio.

On Thursday afternoon, heavy rain fell over parts of Metro Manila, causing floods and poor visibility in some areas in Quezon City.
Duran said this may have been due to rapid evaporation resulting from yesterday morning's hot weather, leading to the formation of thunderclouds.

"(Pero ang) thunderstorm, hindi usually nagtatagal," he said.

Friday forecast

PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin indicated Cagayan Valley and Aurora and Quezon provinces will experience cloudy skies with light rain.

"Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms," it added.

Also, it said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be "light to moderate blowing from the east to northeast with slight to moderate seas."

Gale warning

Meanwhile, PAGASA said strong to gale-force winds associated with the northeasterly winds may affect the seaboards of Northern Luzon.

"Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves," it said. — TJD/ELR, GMA News
