Potential cyclone may bring scattered rains to Visayas
A potential cyclone approaching Mindanao may also bring rain to parts of Visayas in the coming days, state weather forecasters said Wednesday.
PAGASA forecaster Alvin Pura said their models show the weather disturbance, presently a low-pressure area, may cross Mindanao and affect Eastern and Western Visayas.
"Bukas magdadala pa siya ng scattered na pag-ulan at thunderstorms sa Mindanao. Pagtawid nito makakaapekto rin sa area ng Western Visayas," Pura said in an interview on dzBB radio.
He said the LPA may affect Eastern Visayas as well.
Should the LPA become a cyclone while inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), it will be locally codenamed Dante.
Earlier, PAGASA forecaster Manny Mendoza said the LPA has a chance of becoming a cyclone in the next 24 to 36 hours.
Mendoza also said the LPA may bring rain to parts of eastern Mindanao as early as Wednesday afternoon.
"Ito ay may posibilidad maging ganap na bagyo sa susunod na 24-36 oras," he said in an earlier interview on dzBB.
Meanwhile, Pura said there is still a chance of at most one cyclone entering the Philippine area of responsibility in April.
"Sa April may zero to one probability, less ang chance magbagyo," he said. — TJD, GMA News
