A retired policeman who was cleared last year by the Office of the Ombudsman of involvement in the allegedly anomalous repair of police vehicles has been appointed by President Benigno Aquino to a key security post.

Retired Police Director Ray Dulay Roderos, who served as chief of the Philippine National Police-Intelligence Research Center, is now assistant director general of the National Security Council (NSC).

Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. signed Roderos' appointment papers last Thursday.

In 2011, the Ombudsman investigated Roderos for the allegedly anomalous P400-million repair and maintenance of 28 units of PNP light armored vehicles.

Last year, however, the Ombudsman cleared Roderos of involvement in the supposed anomaly due to lack of probable cause to charge him with plunder.

As an official of the NSC, Roderos will be tasked to provide policy advice to the President on national security. The NSC also provides direction to the operations of the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) and the Philippine Center on Transnational Crimes (PCTC).

Aquino also appointed the following officials to various government posts:

-Nelson Peña Laluces as deputy director general of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines,
-Romeo Fajardo and Honorato delos Reyes as acting directors of the Office of Civil Defense.
