Comelec allows first-time voters to use priority lanes
To give first-time voters a better chance to take part in the Oct. 28 barangay elections, the Commission on Elections will allow 18-year-old voters to use the express lanes in registering.
But the Comelec, in Resolution 9750 dated July 26, also said the Philippine National Police clearance is no longer a valid document as proof of identity.
"(R)egistrants who are 18 years old on or before the Oct. 28, 2013 Barangay Elections (may) queue in the EXPRESS LANE for Elderly, (Persons With Disabilities), and Heavily Pregnang Applicants as provided under Sec. 9 of Resolution 9716 and be given similar priority/preferential treatment," it said.
A copy of the resolution was posted on the Twitter account of commissioner Gracia Padaca.

She also said the election and barangay affairs department should implement the resolution, which she said should take effect immediately upon publication.
Also not accepted for identification for voter registration are:
- Barangay clearance
- Sedula
- Police Clearance
The registration period for the barangay elections started July 22 and will end at 5:00 p.m. July 31.

Meanwhile, Comelec spokesman James Arthur Jimenez reminded voters they can register even on Sunday.
"Magpaparehistro ka ba today? Pwede kasi today eh. Kahit Sabado. Pwede rin bukas, kahit Linggo (Will you register today, or on Sunday? You can do so)," he tweeted.
