ASEAN neighbors bringing in relief goods for Yolanda victims

The Philippines' Association of Southeast Asian Nations neighbors are delivering on Wednesday several tons of food, water and other relief items for people affected by super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
 
In posts on its Twitter account, the ASEAN Secretariat said the relief items due in the Philippines Wednesday include those from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei.
 
Even Vietnam, which had been affected by Haiyan, will donate $100,000 to the Philippines to support emergency relief efforts, the ASEAN said.

From Indonesia will be 75 tons of blankets, floor mats, and food items via six C-130 planes, it said.
 
Malaysia is also sending a C-130 plane loaded with food, water, and tarpaulins to Tacloban City to assist the victims.
 
For its part, Brunei will send bottled water and food items to the Office of Civil Defense in Manila for distribution, it added.
 
Yolanda battered the Visayas and parts of southern Luzon last week, leaving more than 1,800 dead as of Wednesday morning. 

On Tuesday, the United Nations said it needs as much as $301 million (P13.174 billion) for its action plan typhoon-battered central Philippines.

Also on Tuesday, the Department of Foreign Affairs placed the total international aid to support relief and rehabilitation efforts at P2.585 billion so far. — RSJ, GMA News
