(Updated 4:04 p.m.) "No regrets at all." This was how resigned Communications Secretary Ricky Carandang described his three-year work in government.

Carandang made the statement after the Palace announced on Thursday that President Benigno Aquino III had accepted his resignation, which will take effect on December 31.

The former head of the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office said that he does not regret working for the Aquino administration because "service to the country was an honor."

Earlier, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said Carandang resigned because he "believes that he has done his job, that he would like to return to the private sector, and that he will wander to the ends of the earth seeking wisdom."

But deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said Carandang never mentioned any disappointments despite submitting an irrevocable resignation.

She likewise said she "did not get that sense" that the President lost confidence in him.

"At least as far as the conversation I had with Sec. Carandang earlier, is that he felt it was time, really, to go back to the private sector. It’s been three years and close to six months that he served with us ... there are things that you know that it’s time to go back," she said at a press conference on Friday.

Carandang, however, said he wants to enjoy the holiday season for now and that any job prospects will have to wait.

"Right now all I want to do is enjoy the holidays. I will think about those things later," he told GMA News Online on Friday.

Also, he said he is not thinking of moving to a specific company or sector "at the moment."

As for rumors he will transfer to the Manila Electric Company, he said: "No. They haven't even asked."
