Nancy Binay: Dasmariñas Village incident already ‘settled, forgotten’

(Updated 4:07 p.m.) Senator Nancy Binay on Thursday described as "malicious" the newspaper report on a supposed altercation between her brother, Makati Mayor Junjun Binay, and security guards from Dasmariñas Village last month, saying the issue has long been "settled" and "forgotten."

"All parties have already explained their sides and have resolved the matter civilly long before the news landed above-the-fold in the Inquirer," Senator Binay said in a statement.

She also said that it is already "time to move on" since the issue has already been "good-naturedly settled."

A Philippine Daily Inquirer report published on Thursday said Mayor Binay ordered the arrest of three security guards of the posh village last November 30 after they supposedly prevented his convoy from passing through a restricted gate.

Senator Binay was aboard one of the vehicles in the convoy, the Inquirer report said.

The report quoted Makati City Police chief Supt. Manuel Lucban as saying that the three security guards were brought to the police headquarters "to verify if the permits of their firearms were in order."

The report likewise said that the agency where the security guards came from "instructed" them to apologize to Mayor Binay.

'Glaring biases and bends'

Binay also said the Inquirer report on the supposed altercation "had glaring biases and bends."

The senator did not, however, give an account of what really transpired between her brother and the security officials. She just said "the video does not capture what really happened."

"It is apparent that there are people bent on putting the name of my family in bad light.. No amount of explanation would satisfy those who have never-ending dislike for our family," Senator Binay said.

Also she said she can "hardly take calls at the moment," saying she needs "private time" with her children for the Christmas season.— Andreo Calonzo/RSJ/LBG, GMA News
