PNoy to lead interfaith prayer for calamity victims

More than two months after Typhoon Yolanda struck the Philippines, President Benigno Aquino III will be leading an interfaith prayer for the victims of calamities in the past year.

"On Monday, January 20 at 5:00 p.m. in Malacañang, the President will lead “One Nation in Prayer” (Isang Bansa, Isang Panalangin) to remember the lives lost to the tragic incidents of 2013, to thank the Almighty for the nation’s strength and resilience, and to seek divine guidance as the country moves forward to rebuild the affected communities," Presidential Communications Operations Office head Herminio Coloma Jr. said during a press briefing on Thursday.

He said the President will be joined by representatives of affected communities of the Zamboanga crisis, the Bohol earthquake, and Typhoon Yolanda.

Coloma said they will also be joined by representatives of various faiths, including Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, Police Superintendent Imam Ebra Moxsir of the Imam Council of the Philippines, Commissioner Zenaida Pawid of the National Commission of Indigenous Peoples, Isaias Samson of Iglesia ni Cristo, and a representative of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches.

Aside from them, Coloma said leaders and members of Congress, government officials, and representatives of civil society and various faith groups were also invited.

But the Palace official also called on the public to "pause and join" the prayer in their respective homes, communities, places of work and worship on Monday. —KG, GMA News
