At least seven men suspected of planning to ransack a pawnshop and a bank by passing through tunnels and canals under the target establishments in Pasay City were arrested Wednesday evening.

It took police and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority teams several hours to go after the seven members of the so-called Imburnal Gang, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.

Police were quoted in the report as saying the gang members had targeted a pawnshop and a bank.

Initial investigation showed police kept watch over a sewage canal across a pawnshop and a bank at the corner of Libertad and Colayco Streets in pasay City about Wednesday noon.

The police called for help, and teams from the Special Weapons and Tactics, Makati City police and MMDA assisted them.

A separate report on "24 Oras" said the MMDA used a backhoe and jackhammer to uncover the tunnel.

Recovered from the suspects were a jack and other construction tools.

The suspects were brought to the Pasay General Hospital. — ELR, GMA News
