Batangas Governor Vilma Santos has no plans of seeking a higher government post during the 2016 elections, at least according to her husband, Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto.

In an interview, Recto said Santos may retire from politics in 2016 and focus on her career as an actress.

"Ang asawa ko nagtatrabaho siyam na taong gulang pa lang. Napakatagal na nagtatrabaho ni Vilma. Palagay ko gusto rin niya gumawa ng bagong pelikula. Nakapaglingkod na rin siya ng mahabang panahon sa aming probinsya," the senator told reporters Monday.

Santos' name is being floated as the possible running-mate of Interior Secretary Mar Roxas or Vice President Jejomar Binay in the upcoming national elections.

Santos has not been approached by any party to convince her to run for vice president in 2016, Recto said.

"Puro tsismis lang ang sinasabi niyo sa akin," he said.

As early as 2011, Binay already made public his intention to run as president in 2016.

Roxas, who was defeated by Binay in the 2010 vice presidential race, has been identified by Senate President and Liberal Party vice chairman Franklin Drilon as the administration party's standard-bearer in the 2016 national polls. — Andreo Calonzo/KBK, GMA News
