Govt activates tracker team to hunt suspect in tabloid reporter slay
Authorities have activated a tracker team to hunt one of the suspects in the shooting of Remate reporter Robelita "Rubie" Garcia in Bacoor, Cavite, Malacañang said Monday.
During a press conference, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda quoted Philippine National Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac as saying investigators were able to produce an artist's sketch of one of the suspects using the statement of the lone witness in the slay.
"A dedicated tracker team was organized and conducting follow-up operations against the suspect," he said.
He issued the statement after the National Press Club of the Philippines condemned the killing of the 52-year-old reporter and said government inaction has made the country more dangerous for journalists.
Garcia, a regular member of the National Press Club, was shot on Sunday by three armed men in Bacoor, Cavite.
"We extend our condolences to the family of the late Robelita Garcia and we promise that we will pursue this [case]," said Lacierda. —KG, GMA News
