Southern Tagalog marchers protest Cha-cha drive

Some 150 members from the Southern Tagalog arm of the Bayan party-list group marched along EDSA to condemn alleged ongoing moves of the Arroyo administration to amend the Charter. The group conducted a brief program in front of Camp Aguinaldo before walking towards the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) building in Kamuning, Quezon City. The demonstrators later held a program at the DILG building, where they alleged that Secretary Ronaldo Puno was the mastermind of government’s efforts to push for Charter change. They accused Puno of illegally using DILG funds and resources for Cha-cha. Puno previously said the DILG has nothing to do with the signature drive for a people’s initiative launched by the Sigaw ng Bayan multi-sectoral group. The protesters will join their colleagues at the Sto. Domingo Church, then march towards Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila.-GMANews.TV
