LTO warns vs. illegal use of special, protocol plates

Motorists were warned anew against abusing special and protocol plates, even if it is just to avoid the number coding scheme.

The Land Transportation Office issued the reminder after it called the attention of a motorist caught using a protocol plate, GMA News' "Unang Balita" reported Tuesday.

In at least one case, photos suggested the violator switched plates with those of his father's vehicle, supposedly so he could get away with violating the number coding scheme.

But the LTO warned those caught abusing their protocol and special plates face having their vehicle registrations canceled by the LTO.

The LTO's new license plates have security features that prevent the transfer of license plates.
