As they thanked Filipinos for their love and support, the family of the late former Sen. Juan Flavier will donate the monetary contributions they received to the National Kidney and Transplant Institute.

Flavier's daughter Joy said the contributions from kind-hearted people including friends and family amounted to some P349,150.

"The last 49 days of Dad’s life were spent at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) ICU. We are truly thankful to all the doctors and nurses who took care of him- and it is by no coincidence that we have decided to donate all the money we received to the ‘BATONG BULILIT Program’ of the Department of Pediatric Nephrology at NKTI, so more children (and adults) can be saved from renal failure," she said on her Facebook page.

The well-loved former senator and secretary of health died on Oct. 30.

He served as health secretary during the Ramos administration. He served two terms as senator from 1995 to 2007.

Last Monday, the Senate held necrological services for him.

"The family is particularly grateful to each and everyone who came and sympathized, sent flowers and mass cards, shared their talents, gave food and offered prayers," Joy said.

"With your kindness, Dad's legacy lives on. We know he is happy. And that also puts a smile in our hearts. Maraming, maraming salamat po," she added. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
