The acting chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said there is "no gap in their performance" in ensuring peace and order and internal security in the country.
In press statement, Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina said the PNP remains committed to meet the "ever-growing demand for better and more effective police service to the communities."
"PNP line units remain steadfast to deny criminal elements and threat groups the opportunity to take advantage of the situation that would have otherwise distracted our focus," said Espina, who is also PNP deputy chief for operations.
Espina also urged the 150,000 police officers "to rally behind the PNP leadership."
"With clear marching orders from DILG Secretary and NAPOLCOM chairman Mar Roxas, the PNP will translate this strategic guidance into operational initiatives and further cascaded as tactical anti-crime actions down the line to the lower units in the station and precinct levels," he said.
Espina became the officer in charge of the PNP after its chief, Director General Alan Purisima, was meted a six-month preventive suspension by the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with a supposed anomalous deal with a courier service in 2011.
Purisima has since appealed his case before the Court of Appeals.
Deputy Director General Felipe Rojas was supposed to be his successor but he already retired last week.
