President Benigno Aquino III has asked Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya to look into what caused the holiday mayhem at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, which caused many passengers to miss their flights.

At a press briefing on Monday, presidential spokesman Secretary Edwin Lacierda said Aquino called Abaya last Friday to inquire about the delays experienced by some Cebu Pacific passengers.

Lacierda said the President was not satisfied with the airport situation and asked the DOTC to ensure this will not happen again.

“Tinawagan niya [Aquino] si Secretary Abaya dahil dito sa nangyari sa Cebu Pacific, doon sa unmanned counters, doon sa masyadong delay, overbooking,” the Palace official said.

“Pinag-aaralan din ng DOTC kung anong puwedeng gawin dito sa—para ma-avoid natin ‘yung ganitong klaseng situation,” he added.

A day after Christmas, a lot of passengers missed their flights, supposedly due to lack of Cebu Pacific counter personnel.

The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has launched a probe on the incident after some passengers lodged complaints about flight delays and overbooking.

Cebu Pacific meanwhile offered refunds to passengers affected by holiday flight delays and cancellations.

Lacierda said the Palace will await the results of the CAB investigation on this matter. —KG, GMA News
