DOH: At least 14 dead after Seniang hits Eastern Visayas

At least 14 people in Eastern Visayas have been killed in the wake of landslides triggered by Tropical Storm Seniang (Jangmi), the Department of Health said Tuesday.
 
State-run Philippines News Agency cited preliminary DOH information indicating some of the 14 were passengers of two vehicles in Samar province.
 
The PNA report cited initial data showing boulders fell on the vehicles in Catbalogan City in Samar. As of Tuesday noon, authorities identified some of the fatalities as:
 
Joyce Uy, 7
Jacel Giray, 11
Alaiza Lozada, 12
Jenefa Jumedia, 3
 
In another incident in Tanauan town, a landslide buried a family in Barangay Cabuynan. The PNA report said authorities identified the fatalities as:
 
Merlie Custodio, 51
daughter Mary Joy, 22
son Vicente, 10
grandson Mark Glener, 1
sister Sarah Modesto
 
The PNA also cited another incident in Barangay Polahongon in Mahaplag town in Leyte, where a family of four died after their house was buried under mud and rocks Monday night. Killed were:
 
Edilberto Dedal, 42
wife Lolita, 41
son Junel, 13
daughter Emily, 11
 
A 14th fatality was identified as Corazon Desto, 54, of Barangay Hipusngo in Baybay City, Leyte.
 
 
The PNA also quoted Sydiongco as saying at least 12 people were admitted at Samar Provincial Hospital due to landslide-related injuries.
 
The PNA report quoted Arvin Monge, coordinator of the Leyte provincial disaster risk reduction and management council, as saying many highways in Leyte are not passable due to flooding and landslide.
 
Monge added flooding was reported in Palo, Tanauan, San Miguel, Dagami, Mahaplag, and Burauen. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
