The Food and Drug Administration warned the public against a counterfeited Epoetin Beta (Recormon) solution for injection.

In Advisory 2014-085, the FDA said Roche Philippines Inc. informed it of the counterfeit products with batch number H0029H09 found in Pampanga.

Citing data from Roche, it said major differences between the genuine and counterfeit batch H0029H09 include.

- label: the genuine is made of plastic material while the fake is made of paper
- expiry date: the genuine has an expiry date of June 2013 and the fake has an expiry date of June 2015.

The FDA said the product is used for treating anemia associated with chronic renal failure.

It said it has instructed its field officers to seize the fake products, and ordered drug outlets and pharmacies not to dispense or sell the unregistered medicine.

The public is urged to inform the FDA of such products at report@fda.gov.ph, or report adverse reaction by downloading a form at www.fda.gov.ph and sending it to adr@fda.gov.ph. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
