âPosas âyan at baril âyan! Aktibista lang ako! (Those are handcuffs and gun! I am just an activist!) Thirty six-year-old agriculturist Jonas Joseph Burgos was reportedly heard shouting these words when his alleged abductors approached him at a restaurant inside a mall in Quezon City early afternoon of Saturday. JL Burgos told GMANews.TV on Wednesday that the testimonies of several witnesses on the disappearance of his elder brother were âalmost consistent" leading to the conclusion that Jonas was indeed abducted. âHalos nagtutugma lahat ng information na ibinigay sa amin ng mga witnesses. Positive na positive that my brother was abducted," JL said. It was earlier reported that witnesses saw four to eight men holding Jonas. JL said the witnesses gave the following common details: physical description of Jonas, the words that he uttered before he was taken out of the mall by his abductors and that he was alone when the incident took place. He said the witnesses only differed in the number of men whom they saw abducting Jonas. "Some of the witnesses were inside the restaurant, some where outside, so iba-iba sila ng nakita kung ilan." âHis abductors are all cowards. How can they do this to an agriculturist who was just peacefully doing his work by helping poor farmers?" said JL. âI am challenging the police to take full responsibility on the disappearance of my brother by thoroughly look into this incident and immediately solving this case. I am challenging them to prove that they can and will protect people regardless of political color," he said. Jonas is the son of the late veteran journalist Jose âJoe" Burgos Jr. His mother, Edita Chavez Tronqued Burgos earlier said the family became anxious when Jonas failed to come home, although his last text message to his family at 6 p.m. was that he was on his way home from SM North EDSA. His family sent text messages to his phone the whole night, asking his whereabouts, but they received an answer from his phone only the following day, at 10:46 a.m., saying "Sensya na, ligo lang (I'm sorry, was just taking a bath)." Family members then called him up and talked to him but his voice sounded like he was drugged and his answers were unclear. His family continued to check on him through text messages and by ringing his cell phone occasionally, but his phone was off until Monday morning. Jonas, an agriculture graduate of Benguet State University, had been giving agricultural technology trainings to members of the Alyansa ng Magbubukid sa Bulacan. - GMANews.TV Tags: jonasjosephburgos, jonasburgos
