Criminal charges are being readied against at least 30 officials and members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters over the Mamasapano clash that left 44 elite policemen dead.

In a report on GMA News TV's News To Go, an investigator who refused to be identified said authorities are already gathering more evidence against the concerned individuals.

Among the MILF commanders planned to be sued include Wahid Tundok, Sakaria Goma, Ustadz Nanan, Abdurahman Upan, and Samsudin Pakinda.

Implicated on the part of the BIFF are commanders Abe Sali Usop, a certain "Kadialen," Badrudin Mamad, Toks Akad Mismari Mamalangkay, Abu Misri, Hasam Indal IV, and Sukarno Sapal.

The report said charges of multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder would be filed against them.

A total of 44 police officers from the elite PNP-Special Action Force were killed and 12 others were wounded during the 11-hour firefight with members of the MILF and BIFF in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on January 25.

The MILF had announced that a total of 17 of their fighters died in the clash.

The SAF members supposedly entered an MILF-controlled area in Mamasapano to arrest Filipino bomb maker Abdulbasit Usman and Jemaah Islamiyah leader Zulkifli bin Hir—also known as “Commander Marwan.”

Government and security officials earlier said Marwan was most likely killed in the Mamasapano operation, although this information still needs to be confirmed. —Mark Mereuñas/NB, GMA News
