Opposition bet Jejomar Binay on Wednesday maintained holding a wide lead over administration mayoral candidate Lito Lapid, who will remain holding a seat in the Senate if he loses to the reelectionist mayor. Latest count by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed that Binay gathered 27,698 votes, while Lapid got 3,065 votes. The two candidates’ votes were based on Comelec’s tabulation of election results from 231 precincts in the second district of Makati, which has a total of 895 precincts. Another mayoral candidate, Elisa Dulalia came a poor third with 51 votes. For the congressional candidates in Makati’s second district, the Makati mayor’s daughter Abigail “Abby" Binay also continuously maintained her lead over rival, Erwin “Win" Genuino. The younger Binay got 18,789 votes while Genuino gathered 11,638 votes. Binay’s reelectionist Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado gathered 22,119 votes while his rival, Nemesio “King" Yabut earned 8,732 votes. - GMANews.TV
