An early morning fire on Thursday razed the armory of Army National Capital Regional Defense Command and 9th Ready Reserve Division inside Fort Bonifacio in Taguig. Major Bartolome Bacarro, Army spokesman, said the fire started at the conference room of NCR defense command around 3:15 a.m. The fire also gutted the nearby building of the Reserve Command. Firemen and augmentation forces from the Army, Air Force and Taguig were able to extinguish the blaze around 4 a.m. Bacarro said they were still conducting an inventory of the firearms destroyed at the armory of NCR defense group. Firearms such as garand, M-16 and M-14 rifles are stored in the armory for training. Some 60 firearms were rescued from the ready reserve building while at least 30 M-16 and M-14 rifles were destroyed. "Mga bakal na lang ang naiwan," he said. Initial investigation showed that the fire was caused by an electrical fault. He said a guard saw a spark at the electrical wiring, causing the fire.-GMANews.TV
