DFA reports no Filipino casualty in Egypt bombings
There was no Filipino casualty in the bombings that killed 23 people at a resort town in Egypt, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday. The DFAââ¬â¢s Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers' Affairs reportedly received a text message from Philippine Ambassador to Egypt Petronila Garcia confirming that was no Filipino casualty in the three near-simultaneous blasts that rocked the Egyptian resort town of Dahab in the Sinai peninsula. On the other hand, Chargé dââ¬â¢Affaires in Cairo Sahid S. Glang said they were coordinating with Egyptian authorities in Sinai peninsula if there were any Filipinos hurt in the bomb blast. Egyptian Interior Minister Habib el-Adly said those killed included 20 Egyptians and three foreigners. Another 62 people were wounded. He said Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has condemned the blasts, describing them as ââ¬Återrorist attacks," and vowed to punish the perpetrators. The attack came a day after Osama bin Laden issued a taped warning against Westerners. The explosions ââ¬â the third terror strike on a Sinai resort in less than two years ââ¬â hit Dahab at 7:15 p.m. when the streets were jammed with tourists strolling, shopping or looking for a restaurant or bar for evening festivities by the tranquil waters of the Gulf of Aqaba. -GMANews.TV
