Fewer UPCAT takers this year
Thousands of graduating high school students on Sunday took the competitive University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT).
A GMA News' Balitanghali report said there was an apparent decline in the number of students who took the UPCAT because of the K-12 program.
Together with his mother, Homer Joseph Asuncion was one of the students who arrived as early as 4 in the morning in the Diliman campus.
“'Yung motivation na binbigay nila sa akin yung nag-push sa akin para ma-achieve ko yung dream ko 'gaano man kalayo,” he said.
His mother, Shirley, said graduating from a prestigious university such as UP will help his son in his job application after college.
“If you will gradate sa UP, may pride at madali makahanap ng trabaho, kaya 'yung iba dito rin kasi yung standard,” she said.
The Philippine Collegian, a student publication in UP Diliman, posted a photo of parents who patiently waited for their children to finish the UPCAT.

The UPCAT consists of four subtests in Language Proficiency (English and Filipino), Science, Math, and Reading Comprehension (English and Filipino).
Results of the UPCAT will be released on February 2016 through the website www.upcat.up.edu.ph.
The list of qualifiers will also be sent to school representatives aside from the individual notices to be sent to all examinees. —Kathrina Charmaine Alvarez/ALG, GMA News
