Police still on full alert despite end of Iglesia ni Cristo protest


The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday morning said its entire force in Metro Manila is still on full alert despite the end of the the Iglesia ni Cristo protest actions.
 
 
Mayor clarified that along with the directive, putting the entire force in Metro Manila on full alert, police units were ordered to keep an eye out for "groups of persons that may take undue advantage of the situation."
 
Iglesia ni Cristo members have left EDSA and Padre Faura Street, in front of the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Manila.
 
Those gathered in front of DOJ offices in the regions have also dispersed.
 
The protesters dispersed after Iglesia ni Cristo general evangelist Bienvenido Santiago sent a message, saying that they are ending the peaceful assembly, which started at the DOJ office in Manila on Thursday last week.
 
"Nagkausap na po ang panig ng Iglesia ni Cristo at panig ng pamahalaan at sa pag-uusap na ito ay nagkapaliwanagan na po ang magkabilang panig," said Iglesia ni Cristo general evangelist Ka Bienvenido Santiago in a recorded message aired over Radio DZBB.
 
"Kaya payapa na po ang lahat. Itong isinasagawa nating mapayapang pagtitipion ay natatapos na po nang mapayapa rin ngayon pong Lunes ng umaga."
 
The entire police force in Metro Manila was placed on full alert status on Saturday after the Iglesia ni Cristo crowd on EDSA started to grow. —ALG, GMA News
